Howardian “New Leans On Old Loans” Video Special Thanks to Jusitn, John and Michael for making this possible.

Possessed of a languid, ethereal murkiness, Olympia, Washington’s Broken Water evoke some of the heaviest hitters the ’90s had to offer while combining their familiar sounds to create something that is all their own. Made up of drummer Kanako and guitarist Jon Hanna, who met while in the band Sisters.

In 2005 Japanther resurrected the Rikki Lake experience. During October of 2005, Japanther played every Friday, two shows each night. A room was meticulously painted to look exactly like the album cover of the 2003 release, 11-foot high puppets were commissioned Credits: Japanther (music), Devin Flynn (murals), Dan Luce (puppets), UFO (mobiles), Elisabeth Arkhipoff (video), Eugene Tsai (lighting), Chad Nau (DVD and filming). Luckily they had the foresight to record it all visually; on 5 different cameras! Dump

“Punch and Judy meets the Who.” —New York Times

After instigating teenage riots to change the voting age to 14 and dosing Congress with LSD, 24-year-old rock singer Neil Sky is elected president. In this multimedia puppet-theater rock-opera (based on the 1968 exploitation film Wild in the Streets), which sharply satirizes the hippie generation and the end of the psychedelic era, an idealistic movement left unchecked becomes the same fascistic tidal wave its young protagonists fight against so unstintingly. Experience the McGuire stage transformed into an intimate 120-seat puppet-theater installation conceived by conceptual artist Dan Graham with videos by artist Tony Oursler. Features live music by post-punk duo Japanther and marionettes by Phillip Huber (Being John Malkovich).

Japanther’s Remote Audio Outpost is a solar powered recording booth, outfitted with a rotary phone wired by Cablesmith (Jason Rutherford) for both recording and transmission. Installed in one of the most remote corners of the Wave Farm property, Remote Audio Outpost is a place for introspection and confession.

The Cake of The 3 Towers (TCo3T) is a collaborative project featuring Japanther, Schuyler Maehl, Florian Reither, and Felice Faison commissioned for Quote Unquote: Experiments in Time-Based Text, an interdisciplinary series presenting work by artists that use an existing text as a departure point for installation, film, and performance.
